Celebrating the genius of John Rodgers

One of Queensland’s most prolific and eclectic composers John Rodgers (pictured) will be acknowledged in a one-night-only celebration as part of this year’s Queensland Music Festival at QPAC’s Concert Hall on 13 July.

With credits and achievements across the globe, John Rodgers’ musical legacy from punk bands through to modern orchestral masterpieces has influenced a generation of musicians for over twenty years, proving what true creativity is possible in the artform.

A virtuoso violinist, Rodgers has composed for stage and screen, released more than eight sound recordings and this special show will bring together friends, collaborators and admirers to celebrate his life and works.

From cabaret act Madam Bones Brothel to gospel harmony act Towards Heaven, his time with the Australian Art Orchestra, his experiments with flamenco and world music and of course his continual challenging of boundaries in improvised music, John Rogers has time and time again proved why he’s considered one of Queensland’s most prolific.

The evening will feature Queensland Symphony Orchestra as well as Kate Miller Heidke with whom he collaborated in 2013 Queensland Music Festival show Heart & Craft, pianist and composer Paul Grabowsky, fellow arranger and conductor Erkki Veltheim,
