Chicago - the high school version
Redcliffe Musical Theatre is presenting a very different production of Chicago at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre from July 5-14 (eight performances only).
This production is directed by a local with enormous experience and credits in direction and choreography – Maureen Bowra – who also directed the highly successful Menopause seen recently at the REC (Redcliffe Entertainment Centre) in a sell-out season! Maureen is a Redcliffe local and thrilled to be bringing high-quality local theatre to the stage at the REC again!
Chicago High School Edition is performed by a younger cast of local high school and tertiary students – mainly aged 16-18yrs.
This version has some slight changes to the script to make it suitable for performance by a younger cast – but all the songs you love are still there – All That Jazz, Razzle Dazzle, Mr Cellophane, When You’re Good To Mama and Cell-Block Tango to name but a few – and the outrageous story of the Merry Murderesses from the 1920’s in Chicago is still there. So it’s school holiday entertainment for all the family.
Starring – Giulia Bortolanza and Niamh Cadoo-Dagley alternating as Velma and Audrey Rose and Alyson Reese alternating as Roxie. And guest star – local performing artist Melanie Evans - as Matron Mama Morton.
In the roaring twenties in Chicago, Roxie Hart murders her faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess," Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream" - fame, fortune, and acquittal.
Performances – July 5-14 at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre – July 5, 6, 12, 13 at 7.30 pm and July 6, 7, 13,14 at 2 pm. Tickets $35 Adult, $30 Concession, $25 Child and $110 Family (two adults and two children). Bookings: www.redcliffemusicaltheatre.com
