One man is all the politicians we love to hate

What makes the Trumps, the Abbotts and the Hansons of this world tick? What would happen if their world started to shift ever so slightly?

Embodying the slogans, mannerisms and headlines of recent history’s conservative politicians, A Prudent Man is a fast-paced darkly comedic Australian political thriller exploring what it means to be right... in more ways than one.Written and directed by Green Room-nominated playwright Katy Warner and performed by Lyall Brooks (right),

A Prudent Man takes an unapologetic look at a man both in control and on the edge. A conservative politician, a leader, a man in a snappy suit, an athlete in a bad tracksuit: Brooks is scarily accurate as an amalgamation of the right-wing politician who haunts us all.

Just an “ordinary, average” Aussie bloke espousing the “basic values” of the “forgotten people”, A Prudent Man is a speculative piece inspired by real life political events and players, using actual language spouted by the pollies we love to hate.

A Prudent Man was a critical and audience hit at both the 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival and the 2017 Perth Fringe World Festival, where it took home the People’s Choice Award from over 400 productions, the WA Tour Ready Award and was nominated for Best Performance. The work was recently nominated for Best Writing at the 2016 Green Room Awards and was selected to appear at the prestigious New York United Solo Festival (2017).
