New Australian theatre piece

The Wives of Wolfgang is presented by Hannah Belanszky and Co in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse.

Three women - the Wife, the Mistress and the Cat - enter the wake of their mutual lover’s funeral. What follows is an evening of feline behaviour, the pursuit of “perfection” and a little bit of scandal.

The Wives of Wolfgang is new Australian work by Hannah Belanszky featuring an original soundtrack composed by Michael Whittred. Performing as part of Wonderland Festival 2017 at Brisbane Powerhouse from the 1 to 3 December on the Centre Court (Turbine Platform).

The play was written by Playlab's 2017 Young Playwright-in-Residence Hannah Belanszky. “I was compelled to write The Wives of Wolfgang when, as an actor, I was struggling to find female roles that I really wanted to play. My aim was to create multi-faceted, strong yet flawed female characters - real women, who are complex, engaging and highly relatable.”

The story centres on three women at a wake and the only thing they have in common is they were all lovers to the deceased, Wolfgang. Audiences can expect a fusion of cabaret, burlesque and dark comedy to an original soundtrack. Producer, Kristen Maloney, describes the show as “dark, sexy and entertaining - it is very much The

Stepford Wives meets Chicago.” Performed by award nominated Caitlin Hill, Jessica Kate Ryan, Hannah Belanszky and Michael Whittred.

Friday 1 December to Sunday 3 December at Centre Court, Brisbane Powerhouse

Tickets: $28 (f), $24 (c) and $21 (groups 6+) + transaction fee of $5.95. Booking information 07 3358 8600 or www.wonderlandbrisbane.com.au
