Free Ballet returns to Brisbane Riverstage for Queensland Ballet On The Lawn

Audiences will enjoy a night of ballet under the stars when Queensland Ballet returns to Brisbane’s Riverstage on Saturday, 17th April.

Presented by Principal Partner Suncorp, Queensland Ballet On The Lawn will include highlights from the Company’s 60th Anniversary Gala, as well as a selection of original works choreographed and performed by Queensland Ballet’s very own dancers. The excerpts from 60 dancers: 60 stories were created during the COVID lockdown and were brought to life on stage last year where they were well received.

Queensland Ballet Artistic Director Li Cunxin AO (pictured) said he also wanted to share the 60th Anniversary Gala.

“This program should offer something for everyone, from timeless Pas de deuxs which reflect Queensland Ballets 60-year history, to modern creations choreographed by our dancers in lockdown,” Mr Li said.

Queensland Ballet On The Lawn is our gift to the Brisbane community, made possible thanks to our Principal Partner Suncorp who have helped make this special performance a reality.

“Together we are putting on a free event that makes ballet accessible to everyone from fans and enthusiasts to those wanting to dip their toes into the ballet world,” said Mr Li.

Executive General Manager of Brand and Marketing at Suncorp, Mim Haysom, says it will be a special occasion for the community to come together and enjoy live ballet once again.

“After a difficult 2020, we are delighted to be able to work with Queensland Ballet to stage this free event and bring live ballet back to Riverstage as part of their 60th Year celebrations,” she said.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said experiencing world-class ballet under the stars at Riverstage would be an exquisite experience.

“Brisbane’s wonderfully warm outdoor climate is made for experiences like these and a free performance by Queensland Ballet is sure to be nothing short of outstanding,” Cr Schrinner said.

“With Queensland Ballet celebrating 60 years, it’s a great opportunity for residents and visitors to indulge in the incredible productions and performances they’ve perfected here in Brisbane for six decades.”

The performance will take place at Riverstage, Brisbane’s iconic open-aired venue, and is the perfect opportunity for audiences to gather their family and friends, lay down a picnic rug, and enjoy Queensland Ballet’s dancers in their full splendour.

“We have been keeping an eye on the weather, but the plan is if there’s minimal risk, the show will go on,” Mr Li said.

Queensland Ballet On The Lawn will be presented for one night on 17 April starting at 6pm at Brisbane Riverstage. The performance is free, though registrations are essential. Ticketing opens this Wednesday 24 March at 9am and were all snapped up within an hour in 2019. To register visit https://www.queenslandballet.com.au/queensland-ballet-on-the-lawn
