Premiere to open Brisbane French Theatre season

Following two sell-out performances of Simone Says and The Student and Mr Henri last year, Brisbane French Theatre is ready for a new season. The first play for 2018 will be a premiere of Alas, April (French title: Helas Avril en Vain me Voue) a new play by Thomas E. Smith, which blends fast-paced dialogues, reflective moments, and a good dose of goofiness, all to the tune of French classics and original tracks..

The romantic comedy will transport audiences into the Paris Metro where they will witness strangers crossing paths and helping each other out as they navigate the whims of love and life… as well as the customary strikes and delays often affecting France’s public transport.

French novelist and screenwriter David Foenkinos will be the artistic sponsor for this play. David’s best-selling novel, Delicacy, was made into a film starring Audrey Tautou, and in 2014 he was awarded Prix Renaudot for his novel Charlotte.

Alas, April will be performed in French, with English subtitles projected above the stage on a wide screen.

The play is recommended for an audience 15+. It contains mature themes, coarse language and sexual references that may offend some audience members.

Cast: Lila Girod, Thomas Smith, Hugues Girod, Rani Fouladoux, Brendan McHugh, Alexander Claude, Matthew Peacock , Guy Pigerre, Felicity Reid, Chloe Lauverjon, Merlin Aizierlo.

Performances: 16-19 & 25, 26, 27 July 2018 at 7:30 pm at Metro Arts, 109 Edward Street, Brisbane. Duration: 90 minutes. Bookings http://bft.org.au/april
