Bluegrass band heads in from the US

Bluegrass quintet, Punch Brothers

American Grammy Award nominated Bluegrass quintet, Punch Brothers will perform in Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC’s) Concert Hall on Tuesday 9 August 2016, in their first visit to the Sunshine State.

Punch Brothers’ combination of vocals/mandolin (Chris Thile), guitar (Chris Eldridge), bass (Paul Kowert), banjo (Noam Pikelny), and violin (Gabe Witcher) inhabits a unique space across indie rock, folk, jazz, bluegrass and classical music genres.

They return to Australia after their tour in 2012. They will play tunes from their latest album, the T Bone Burnett-produced The Phosphorescent Blues, along with selections from their catalogue.

The Phosphorescent Blues was Grammy award nominated for Best Americana Album this year with the band also receiving nominations for Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance for the song Julep.

The Phosphorescent Blues album is inspired by how smart phones have changed the way people communicate.
