Stars turn out for Animal Action Day on the Gold Coast.

A Douglas Kennedy preview.

A founding member of the legendary Australian group, The Seekers, is heading to the Gold Coast for the 17th annual Animal Action Day event.

Musician Keith Potger, (pictured) who along with Athol Guy, Bruce Woodley and the late Judith Durham, brought the foursome to international stardom in the 1960s will headline a who’s who of Gold Coast Talent.

The annual event, which supports the Aussie Wildlife Charity Community, will be an all-day event at the Mermaid Waters Hotel on Sunday November 19.

Animal Action Day founder and organiser, Aldwyn Altuney says the family fun day will feature live acts, guest speakers and other special features.

In addition to the Sydney-based Potger, the musical line-up will include entertainer Lesyah Malveen, country singer-songwriter Tyson Colman, singer-guitarist Xanthe Lees and the Broadbeach and Northern Gold Coast U3A ukulele group.

Other presentations include face painting by Painted Faces, yoga teacher Sonali Johri hosting a calming breathwork stretch session, and various speakers including award winning author Lynn Santer, Aussie Wildlife founder Jenni Abbott and Ipswich animal activist Jill Prior.

Ms Santer is a writer and producer of works such as Swan Song and Land of the Free, while Ms Prior will tell the dramatic story of how she rescued a Wedgetail Eagle in Esk this year.

There will also be thousands of dollars of raffles and the first 25 people to sign up for the event will receive an Australian Firefighters Calendar.

Ms Altuney says all monies raised on the day will go towards helping grass-roots Gold Coast charity Aussie Wildlife.

“This Nerang-based organisation rescues and rehabilitates wildlife, which has been abused, injured or abandoned,” says Ms Altuney.

“The charity has about 30 native animals in its care at the moment.”

Animal Action aims to raise awareness, appreciation, and respect for all animals, and has raised large amounts of monies over the years.
