The decision to cancel performances and projects is necessary and disappointing, however the health and wellbeing of the community is the Centre’s number one priority. Our audiences and artists have been front of mind since the start of this international crisis and we have consistently acted cautiously and responsibly to unfolding advice. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this will cause to our patr

Review - tick, tick… BOOM: an absolutely stupendous show

tick, tick… BOOM! Book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson Directed by Timothy Wynn Presented by THAT Production Company in association with Beenleigh Theatre Group Crete Street Theatre Beenleigh Season ends March 14. tick, tick… BOOM! was an absolutely stupendous show that grabbed you, body and soul, and didn’t let go until the end. This had to be one of the very best amateur produced shows that I have seen—my other half raved about it all the way home. This show takes us on the rocky road that is the musical industry, into the drama and life of an aspiring young composer in 1990’s New York, said to be the autobiographical story of Jonathan Larson himself, who struggled to make it on to B

The 89-year-old launched his remarkable career as a lyricist for two of Broadwa

Founding Director of QPAC, Tony Gould, dies

The arts in Australia today lost one of its most fervent champions with the passing of Tony Gould, AM, (pifctured) early yesterday evening. The founding Director of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Tony was remembered by those who knew him well and worked with him as someone who was not only passionately supportive of the performing arts but also cared deeply for the people behind the art. Following on from an already impressive career in the arts both as an actor and a respected arts administrator, Tony was appointed as Director of the yet-to-be-built $130 million QPAC in 1979 after a worldwide search. He opened QPAC in 1985 and under his 23-year tenure more than 8 million peop

Review – Rumours: a must see for all who love comedy

Rumours By Neil Simon Directed by Simone de Hass Growl Theatre Windsor school of arts Windsor Season runs until March 14: Bookings: Growl Theatre is an amateur company based in Windsor in the beautiful old Windsor Arts building on Lutwyche Road. It has taken me sometime to wend my way there but I was so pleased I did because the presentation and performance of Neil Simon’s Rumours directed by Simone de Hass is simply superb and on an equal level to anything we might see in professional theatre. The competent cast lead by Lexy Suttor, Brad Ashwood and Lisa Hickey, are well balanced and highly energetic. The whole play is pivotal on timing and punctuality and t

Review – Sayoyards' Into the Woods: the entire ensemble was top notch

Into the Woods By Steven Sondheim Directed by Vanessa Wainwright Musical Director Matthew Semple Savoyards Star Theatre Wynnum State High School Peel Street Manly Season: March 7-14. or phone (07) 3893 4321. Into the Woods is a surprisingly complex work and the latest production at Savoyards rises to the challenge of bringing Stephen Sondheim’s most popular musical to the stage. Sondheim, at any level from the most expensive large-scale productions at QPAC to the smallest of community theatre productions, is a mammoth feat. The skill required in direction, musicianship and acting is monumental and thankfully the cast and crew at Savoyards are more than up to the tas
