Review - Secret Broadway: a pleasure to listen to

Pictured: Shoshana Bean Secret Broadway Created and Hosted by Lance Horne HOTA (Home of the Arts 35 Bundall Road Bundall Qld. Season is over. Show seen on February 22. Secret Broadway at HOTA (Home of the Arts) was sold on the star power of Shoshana Bean and Simon Burke and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Their vocal ability is truly amazing and with the support of local talent Mindy Kwanten, Jordan Malone, Tim Carroll and James Shaw it was a pleasure to listen to. That being said as a production it left a little to be desired. From the outset, I got the impression that the individual artists had chosen the solos they wanted to sing with a few group numbers thrown in to open and close the

Review - The Neighbourhood: theatre at its finest

Duration: 70 minutes with no interval. Bookings: 07 3007 8600 or www.laboite.com It would be dishonest of me to say I went into La Boite’s latest show The Neighbourhood with an open mind. I had seen the advertising describing it as “Like our smash hit show The Village” a show I will admit I didn’t like. In recent years La Boite’s programing has been a mixed bag at best. But in a weird way however it is those low expectations that allowed The Neighbourhood to be such a pleasant surprise. The Neighbourhood, much like T

Review - Emerald City: fresh, tight and sparkling

Nadine Garner, Jason Klarwein and Rhys Muldoon Emerald City Directed By Sam Strong Written By David Williamson Queensland Theatre QPAC Playhouse South Bank Brisbane Season runs until February 29.Bookings www.qpac.com.au or 136 246 2020 marks 50 years of Queensland Theatre and also 50 years of writing by the esteemed David Williamson. 50 years is a long time. It might even seem like a veritable age upon looking back. However, it can also disappear within the blink of an eye. When you combine both theatre and playwright it often, simply, makes magic. This time it was magic in the form of Emerald City, which opened last night to a full house at QPAC’s Playhouse theatre. This particular dramady

Review - That’s What She Said: a bunch of super talented women performing together

That’s What She Said The Good Room Co-creators: Saffron Benner, Daniel Evans and Chloe Greaves Directed by Daniel Evans Sue Benner Theatre Metro Arts Brisbane Season: 11 – 15 February 2020. Event is sold out. Change is scary but change is also inevitable. I was there the night just over 12 months ago when Creative Director and CEO of Metro Arts Jo Thomas announced her plans to sell the beloved 109 Edward Street. Let me tell you the tension in that room was palpable. Thankfully Metro has found a new home in West End and has moved across the Brisbane River (which as any Brisbane person knows is a big deal). But before that can happen we need to say goodbye to the old dame that is 109 Edward St
